Hello,
We became permanent residents of Canada in June 2012. After spending 6 weeks in Canada, we returned to our home country. We are returning to Canada in June 2015. I want to quickly prepare the forms to apply for Canada Child Tax Benefit in the very first days on arrival. There is something unclear to me in form RC66 SCH concerning the dates of becoming a resident / becoming a resident again.
I understand that we have never been residents of Canada for tax purposes, so am I a new resident or a returning resident?
And which dates should I write in the following sections:
Part B:
Enter the date you became a resident of Canada - it is 2012 or 2015?
Enter the date you became a non-resident of Canada. is it when we left Canada in 2012?
Enter the date you became a resident of Canada again. - is it 2015?
Part D:
enter the dates in the areas below to cover the entire period for which you are applying for benefits.- is it the whole period from 2012 (our first landing) or from 2015? I assume that I cannot apply for benefits from 2012.
Part E
Step 1,2,3 - Year you became resident of Canada - this means, for the first time or as a returning resident? Which year should I mention: is it the first time (2012) or second time (2015)?
And one more question: do I have to file a tax return for 2014 so that I can apply for CCTB?
Thanks
