Hi,
I landed in Toronto nov 2008. Since then I am living and working outside Canada. Since my profession is a Doctor, I have to clear some exams before becoming elgible to work in Canada. By God's grace I am almost done and only few months left to finish the last exam.
I have not applied yet for CCTB thinking that I am not living and working in Canada. Did I commit a mistake by doing so?? Am I supposed to apply. If this is the case can I apply from the period I landed in Canada i.e almost 18 months??
I appreciate your help in answering my questions
God bless you all

PMM is right. Since you are not residing in Canada and paying taxes, you cannot apply for CCTB.

As far my understanding works, you are eligible for CCTB/UCTB after 18 months of your arrival in Canada. Even you haven't applied yet, you can do so now. Whenever the first payment is made, the eligible period is taken under consideration. For example: Someone landed in Canada on 1 jan 2008. He becomes eligible on 1 July 2009. If the first payment is started only in October, the payment of July to Sept will be paid together with the payment of October.

Now the question about your employment not being in Canada, I 'm really not aware of that situation. Call the Revenue Canada and tell them everything clearly. They will definitely guide you further in this concern.

Btw, Best of luck for your exams!! ;)

To get CCTB you have to reside in Canada, the children have to reside in Canada.

Thank you very much for your reply. I will call Revenue Canada to double check and will post the reply back here. A friend of mine with circumstances similar to mine but his kids are older, paid the tax for 2009 though he is not residing or living in Canada! Do I have to do like him since we are earning outside Canada. I do not want to violate any law. Please advise. God bless
