can you bring your household things as a VISITOR ?

My family and I (wife and 3 kids are canadian cit's, I am US cit) would like to come to Canada for 5-12mo to visit Canada, to be near 2 dying parents and family. Visitor status makes the most sense for me, the US citizen spouse. We don't want to make permRes application for me, as we don't plan to stay and this route is time-consuming and expensive. We don't need to "work" in Canada and don't know exactly how long we need to stay yet (prob 5-12 mo). Since we have 3 young kids, we need to bring stuff (mattresses, toys, household stuff and get a rental). Is there any way to properly request the ability to bring your things, as a Visitor? I really don't want to try and find a furnished rental with everything we need and be allowed only with our airline luggage. What is the best way to legally get your stufff shipped, on Visitor status
