Can U.K citizens exchange their Driving licence for a Canadian one?

Hey all,

Just wondering is it possible for a UK citizen to exchange their driving licence for a Canadian 1 after receiving COPR and landing. I was told somewhat reliably that you have to exchange your British licence for an International driving licence first and once you land you can exchange it to a full Canadian licence providing you have held your own licence for a set period of time. If this varies from province to province I would appreciate any feedback in what provinces differentiate if any at all (Quebec included)

Also what proof of recent driving history do you need? I have a full U.K licence for the last 20 years and would like to try and exchange as seamlessly as possible.

Can you shed some more light on the process involved. Do you have to prove you have actually been driving in the last 5 years? and how do you do it? Letters from old insurance companies? does Canada differentiate between a manual and automatic licence or is it just 1 licence?

Need some help on what evidence I need and how to go about it before I settle in AB. I don't wanna take my GB licence over their only to be told I should have exchanged for a International licence prior to coming

All I did was go in with my licence and said I wanted to exchange it for a NB one.
They took my licence, took pics and I paid about $80 I think and that was it.
5 minutes later, I had my NB licence.
I'm not certain but I don't think its that easy in other provences.
I know in NS you can't exchange. You have to do a road test.
I moved to Alberta from NB 2 years ago so I could exchange my NB one , no problem.

I just checked the service Alberta website.
If you hold a full UK licence, you can exchange it for an Alberta one.
All you need is proof of residency. And you need to exchange it within 90 days of residing in Alberta.
If you do a google search for Service Alberta, they have all the info there
