Can the co-op period be extended without extending the work permit?

I have applied for PR + OWP and I'll expect a response for my OWP by October. My work permit (related to my co-op) expires on June 30th, but my co-op (the work period) was extended by the school until July 26th. I want to know if is worth it to apply for a 1 month extension, if I have to stop working immediately or if I could be on implied status until I get my OWP?

To be doing coop you need both a study permit and a coop permit, coop is study so a normal work permit can not be used for coop.
