I have recently obtained my Permanent Residency through the Alberta PNP program and did my landing at the Coutts, AB border about a month ago. I am currently living and working in a small town in Alberta for the last two months. I am a provincial nominee of Alberta, and my landing has been successful. Prior to coming to Canada I was living in the USA for the last 12 years. I gave the border official an Alberta address at the time of landing which is where I currently reside.

Unfortunately, I am unhappy at my current location and/or maybe job although I am grateful I have a job and was able to migrate to Canada. I wish to go to a bigger city preferably Toronto. I really dont care much about the salary difference as I know I will make more money in Alberta than in Ontario. I am not sure if my PR will allow me to do so ? I dont mind staying where I currently am for another 6-9 months if i have to but is it legally OK for me to move to Toronto or Vancouver ? I really appreciate Leon's inputs.

I am not Leon, but I believe he will share my opinions, mostly, regarding your dilemma.

1. you are an AINP nominee, most likely same as me, USH1B Visa program, and you have your MORAL obligation to stay certain amount of time, which nobody will know how long is reasonable, in Alberta. if you cannot find job in Alberta, that is more easily understandable to move to other provinces. Your case is different. You have a good pay job in Alberta, and you just do not like the setting in which you are living in. That is hard sale.

2. Alberta has Edmonton and Calgary, which have decent sizes and opportunities and may fit your needs.

3. No official and legal bond on you to stay in Alberta. But it is personal call and moral call. If no body stays in the province nominated him, the whole provincial nomination system will be compromised. So do what you can to stay in Alberta.

I will move to Calgary and I will stay there as long as I can find a job matching my training and education, which should not be a problem for me to locate the job.

I had contacted the AINP office and they told me they will send me a survey to my apartment after one year. I have a feeling that survey is done in order to make sure that I am living in Alberta. I believe they are sort of cracking down on people doing these sort of things but I am just not sure to what extent.

Trust me I am not trying to influence you or anyone to do what I am doing. I just happened to be out of luck, I think if i was in Calgary, I would have been more content with my life. I am not sure what the market is like up there, I was lucky I got this job as there are not so many who would move to a smaller town like where I am. Although I feel like leaving sooner than later, I am sort of stuck because of the relocation clause they have in my employment letter as I will take a huge hit and sort of screw up my employment history. I am probably looking at about a year or so at current location and then to some major metro.

I just want to know the rules of a PNP moving after staying for say a year or so ?

@ dell ----- I would rather take legal advice from an immigration lawyer. Remember, the forum members, while they try to give suggestions with good will, they are NO experts. They are just like you and me! In my opinion, you need to stick around 2 years in Alberta to complete your probation period for permanent residency. Then perhaps you can move. Then again, I don't know if that will affect your citizenship application later. Like I said, your best bet would be a lawyer!
