Hi,

I got my Post Graduate work permit on 3 sep 2011. But I was working from April 2011 as a part time employee. As per rule only post graduate hours are going to be counted. So from 3 september 2011 to 31 Dec 2011 I was a part time employee. but sometimes I got overtime more sometimes less. But with all up and downs I got 723 paid hours from 3 september to 31 december 2011. Then in January i become full time employee... I sometimes i worked as over time as well. So, according to this If i completed 75 until 3 september 2012 i will get 1275.. So total will be 723+1275=1998.

In this way I completed 1 year as well mix of full time and part time. and hours as well. So please please please tell me whether I can apply in september or not?

I am a nurse, I am exactly same situation as you.
I hired my 1st job in June 15 2011, second job in JUly 25th 2011, I made 2300 hours until now, some weeks I worked 52hours
some less than 37.5 hours.

the point is as long as you worked over 1950 hours, longer than 52 weeks, you can apply it.

I thought I must work at least 37.5 hours per weeek, so I worked like a DOG for a long time.

But it was not necessary.

Hey,

I used to work in a retail store so I got random hours some time 3-4 days a week with 7 hour shifts and some times 5 days with 9 hour shifts. It doesnt matter if you work over or under all long as you are able to complete the required 37.5 hours a week for a year it can be in a full time or a part time position like me, but it took me obviously a bit more then 1 year.

Hi draxz1289,

Thats what I mean some weeks I worked under 37.5 hours and some weeks over. so can I count all together in a year 1950 hour and 52 weeks.. or it should be every week 37.5?

It doesn't matter if you work 37.5 hours a week or less or more as long as you are able to complete 37.5 *52 weeks

from the CIC website

"Does part-time work experience count toward meeting the requirements for work experience?

Yes, but it will take you longer to accumulate the amount of hours necessary to apply than an applicant who has worked full-time."

I have no idea what this means... 75 what? 75 hours bi-weekly?

I disagree with the LOGIC previous posts - overtime cannot be counted - but the outcome will be more or less the same.

You CAN of course mix full-time and part-time. 723 hours / 37.5 hours per week = equivalent of 19 weeks of full-time employment. The problem is, you completed those hours in 18 weeks, which means you should have a maximum of 675 hours. A VO may overlook that, or they could ask for paystubs to figure out how many weeks you were working full-time - Any week in which you work 37.5 hours or more is simply 1 week of full-time - and how many part-time hours you had, which could change the exact date on which you qualify.

So you need to work at least 34 weeks (maybe more) in your full-time position to meet the 1 year requirement.

If you became a full-time employee in January, you have to count a full-time week as 1 week - overtime as a full-time employee does NOT "speed up" your application. Others have made that mistake and had their applications rejected. If you apply in September you will likely be rejected. Sometimes individual VOs have their own interpretation, but with everything going to CPP-O now, you should be aware, they've had the strictest interpretation (e.g. looking for a reason to reject your application).

Don't know WHEN in January you started, but for example, if you started full-time on January 1, by my count you would have 34 weeks of full-time employment on September 1.

So, you would qualify sometime in September. Whatever you do, do NOT apply 1 or 2 weeks too early. The 1 year requirement is a MINIMUM, if you do not meet the minimum, your application will be rejected. Do the math and count weeks yourself, and round DOWN. You would be wise to give yourself a couple of weeks extra for leeway.

From personal experience, you should work extra 1 month over the required 1 yr time period and do not rush your application. One mistake and your file will be rejected after 4 months of overview.

I agree with jess_ON and Calgary_Man. I think once you apply with the cumulative FTE weeks.

Your table is hard to follow (it looks like a bi-weekly pay schedule), but from your Part Time hours (September to December), you had 579.5 minus your last two pay period when you were also full-time (37.5 + 22.77). Note that if I were you, I would count from the date you received your PGWP (October 2nd). As such, you work 334.73 part time hours from October 2 to December 31. That's the equivalent of roughly 8 full-time weeks.

As such, you will need at least 44 more full time weeks for this year to qualify. That would make you eligible in the first week or so in November. As your calculations are messy, I would apply with a little "extra" experience in-case the VO has a different interpretation as Calgary_Man said.

as long as u met the required hours after one year but not before one year. so if u completed the hours before one year of experience, ur not qualified. u must wait for at least one year and not before hand. hours completed before the scheduled period will not counted. if u started working before pgwp, it will not be counted. only pgwp will be counted. so starting from october 2011 till october 2012, u will be eligible but not before then. hope this helps.
