I have applied for PR under EE for canada.
After PR one can work in Canada.
Can someone study in canadian universities after one gets COPR and then you land in canada for your PR card?
Does universities accept this as domestic student?

Or if one has to study there has to go by study visa only??

Hello nancy20,

Once you get the COPR and finish the landing formalities you enjoy the same benefits as of a Canadian citizen except for voting therefore you can study once you are a PR and shall be taken as a domestic student .

Thanks Tousif.
So how shall I look into getting into universities?
Shall I be checking for the process for a domestic student?
Does this also mean that I will have to apply to universities once I reach Canada?
my AOR is september and waiting for PPR.

After landing, try getting in touch with universities. You will be considered as a domestic student.

Any university will check if you can effectively listen to the academic lectures, write sophisticated reports, defend your thesis orally, and read, understand research papers. So holding a PR doesn't necessarily show that you are good at communicating in academic environment.

Even Canadian born students will have to provide proof of English proficiency during application process.

Yes unless you land you cannot be termed as a domestic student so I would suggest you to research on those lines (as a domestic student )

Hi Nancy, I got my coPR few days back and I'm too thinking about getting enrolled as a domestic student before landing. Can you share your experience regarding the same? TIA

I should make one clarification here.

You can absolutely start your admission process before landing (using your COPR letter). I confirmed this from a UofT Immigration Advisor over an email.

For language proficiency, you can submit a letter from your university/college that states english as your mode of education (teaching & examination). Most of the times your official transcript also mentions mode of education. Nevertheless, this does not guarantee that you will be exempted from a language proficiency test. Therefore, you should share a letter stating your mode of education along with your transcripts (if they have a comment on mode of education) to the admission department and they will let you know if you are required to provide a test or not.

If you have COPR letter, I recommend you get in touch (via email) with the respective university department in which you are planning to enrol BEFORE you apply for an admission online.

Thanks for the clarification. But, after reading numerous responses to similar questions, one thing is for sure that one is not a PR completely before the COPR gets signed on landing. Secondly, colleges will accept your application as domestic and ask you for deposit with a 48 hour deadline but if you ask them for a confirmation that you will be considered a domestic candidate in all further stages of application, they forward your query to the International admission department section which means admission section for domestic candidates is still not sure about how your application will be treated. And yes, this deposit is non-refundable. So it will be really nice of you, if you can share what UoT mailed you as their response I am in the situation I just mentioned above and it feels like risking the deposit money if you want to escape the hassle for paying for international and then flipping to domestic.
TIA
