Can my spouse come to Canada while we wait for PR

Hello,

I have tried to search for the answer to this but I continue to get vague answers. Also the CIC website is a disaster for finding information.

Anyways, I am a born Canadian Citizen and my girlfriend is Italian. I have been accepted as a sponsor as of April 24th. Her PR application has since been forwarded to the CPC-Ottawa office.

My question is this: I have to go to my best friend's wedding in late July, and was curious if my spouse can come to Canada before we receive a response about her PR application.

IF she is allowed to come to Canada, would she then also have to go back to Italy once given PR status?

Does she need a return ticket to be allowed entry (proof that she is only a visitor at the moment)

I appreciate any help with this and I would be happy to add anymore information you think would be needed.

Hi

Yes, your partner can come to Canada as a visitor. She doesn't need to return to Italy once her app is approved. She can change her mailing address to Canada and have her COPR sent there. She can then flagpole at the Canada-US border to land as a PR.

She should carry proof of the PR app, like the sponsor approval letter and proof of finances. It would most likely be fine coming on a one-way ticket but ti wouldn't hurt to purchase a completely separate and fully refundable ticket back to Italy.

I am just curious about getting a separate return (one-way) ticket back to Italy. Does it necessarily have to be back to Italy, or could it for example be onwards to some where in the US or another country?
