Can my sister get me in to Canada? Help please...

Hi,

Can anyone help us?

My sister and her husband (who has always had Canadian citizenship as well as British), moved to Canada Feb this year.

My sister was sponsored entry by her husband. She has full residency.

After a trip to see her, we fell in love with Vancouver and want to emigrate from the UK to there.

My wife and I are 31 and can not get in on the skilled worker visa (my career not on list), or skilled trade (no job offer, but everything else perfect).

It will be very hard for me to get a carpentry job from England, as the Canadian employer would have to offer at least 1 full year of full time work, wait for an undisclosed period of time for a possible visa to be granted, as well as assist in the process as well. That is a lot to expect from someone who generally advertises for workers to start very soon!

My question is. Can my sister or her husband sponsor us to emigrate to Canada?

No - she can't.

She would only be able to sponsor you through the family class stream if she had no relatives in Canada - and both of your parents were deceased.

The fact she has a husband means she can't sponsor you through family class.
 
Have you investigated Provincial Nomination?
 
If your career is not a skilled trade, then start taking up a trade. Here in Alberta, which is close to Vancouver, we have a severe shortage of skilled trade workers, we're even having to hire from overseas because not many Canadians at home want to do the trades.

My best advice is, after you find a skilled trade you like (I'm sure there are electrician, plumber, welder jobs in UK), get 2 years experience, then you will be very quickly be able to come to Alberta on their provincial program.

Also keep in mind, Vancouver, I agree is a lovely city, but the cost of living is extremely expensive, taxes, especially on gasoline, is high also. And the salaries are quite low compared to other provinces.

Hello Scylla,

Is there other way that I could request my sister aside from Family Class category? I have a permanent residence status here and my husband is a natural born citizen and we are planning to request my sister to assist us in my preparation for pregnancy later. However based on the guidelines we could only sponsor other relatives if she/he is an orphaned and below 18 yrs old and my sister is not qualified in this category...She is currently working as a nurse..Can u suggest other alternative? Thank you.
 
All you can do is apply for a TRV (visit visa), which would be valid for 6 months, which you can then extend. There's no option to "sponsor" your sister such that she would eventually become PR.
 
Ask her to come as a live in caregiver, which is what lots of Filipino women are doing lately. I read somewhere on the news that 85% of live in caregivers are from Philippines

This is certainly an option provided the employer meets the income requirements and has a sufficiently large house / apartment to accommodate an extra person. The one downside is that the processing time for live in caregiver applications (work permits) from the Philippines is currently sitting at around 18 months.
 
Yes (what Scylla said) AND the applicant must have actual work experience as a care-giver to obtain a work permit in that field, and then you would have to get an LMO and then really employ her for TWO years paying CPP, EI, and wages before she could apply for PR herself.
