Hi guys,
my fiance is a canadian PR and has put in her application for citizenship. We have been together for almost 10yrs now and we are currently planning for our wedding that will be in dec.We recently decided to settle in canada but our main problem is seperating from each other.she is currently in kenya with me and we have been told that the process for her to sponsor me could take upto 18 months(she has to be in canada since she is currently a PR)...this is a nightmare situation for both of us.My question is,can her mum sponser me?her mum is a canadian citizen. Can she sponsor me as her son in law...kindly advice.Any kenyans out there?? how long did it take for u in the nairobi office??

Your mother in law can not sponsor you but there are some other options. She could stay with you until she gets her citizenship, then apply to sponsor you without having to be in Canada or you could try to get a visit visa to go to Canada with her and apply from there.

Hi
i guess, if you apply for visitor visa you have to come back within 6 months though. the best way to stay there with her in canada for a long time untill your pr status get cleared is student visa and in that scenario you will get longer stay atleast 1 to 2 yrs.

You can apply to extend the visit visa at some point before it expires. If you already have a sponsorship application in process, if it is inland, they will always approve an extension. For outland, they could refuse but I have not heard of a case yet that they did.

The only case I have heard of a spouse asking to extend the visit visa and being refused was a couple that had already extended once before based on that they were about to apply for sponsorship and 6 months later tried to extend it again and had not applied for sponsorship yet.
