Hi,

I am currently in Canada on my work permit that is getting expired on June 2018. Last week, I sent my passport to CPC-Ottawa for PR stamping (PR under CEC program) and expecting it be returned with stamp in 1 week. So, after I get my passport stamped with PR visa and COPR, can I leave the country& be back within 15 days and get it stamped at the border when I re-enter Canada ? I badly need to go to India asap.
Any advise will be much appreciated. Thanks,
~KRS

Actually you will have to travel out of Canada after your PR visa to complete the process of landing. People would go with flag polling by visiting US border control and returning to Canadian border to complete the landing process that is the reason you have the PR VISA. Your case is actually ideal, as you have to go out and return on the PR visa to complete the landing process. Just gather all the documents to present to the border control..

Good luck

I have the same question as well. But mine is a little different. I need to travel a few business trips before I can actually do the landing process. Can I choose to just go in and out with my valid work visa and do the landing on some other visit back? Coz I need to be in Canada for at least 45 days waiting for the PR card before traveling out again. Tx

Well kind of tricky question. If you have PR visa, I am sure the Canadian border will assume that you are here to complete the landing process. I mean I don't think it is your call that, hey guys, don't bother about that PR Visa, I am making entry using work visa not the PR visa. :)

I think (and take a note that it is my opinion, and I could be wrong here) when you enter for the first time after your PR Visa you will have to complete the process of landing. Your other visas don't get cancelled because you have made a PR Landing in the Country. Next time when you enter you can still use your other valid visas to make entries. (all above is my own opinion. I don't have experience and may be someone else can shed a light if they cancel all other visas once landing has been completed !!)

From what I heard when you land your other visas/permits are void and this makes sense to me.

OK perfect, and thanks for the information!
This was not my area and I told the OP that it is my opinion only as I have no experience. May be someone with first hand experience can also confirm this, so that I can pass on this knowledge in future to others.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah that's what i was told as well. And that is the reason why when you do your landing you have to wait for your PR card Within this time you can only gain entry via land and not via air. The reason is the PR visas and other visas all become void. Airlines do not have access to the immigration info but border offices do, you just use the COPR doc to gain entry.

Regarding choosing when to do the landing process, yes that's what I'm trying to find out. tried calling CIC but they passed me to another line but no one picked up.

Hi,

I am currently in Canada recently got work permit extension and my visa is expired. Last week I got my PPR call and sent my passport to Ottawa. So after I get my passport stamped, am I eligible to do landing process in any US land border. or do I need to travel back to home country and re-enter. I am confused because at present my visa is expired.

You can flagpole at the Canada-US border.
