Hi,

I wanna know do birth certificate really required for CEC application. Because when I was born in 1986 there were no birth certificates used to be issued and all my life I have been using my educational certificates as a proof of my birth date and there is no way I can get my dob certificate because there is no official record of birth at the place where I was born.

Thanks

yes you can use your secondary certificate if it has both or one of your parents name, even affidavit not reqd

I have aldo included certificate of birth from Indian embassy, but that is not required

I too strongly recommended getting the documents notarized and also keep an explanation letter for not providing birth certificate. An explanation letter solves many complications, it gives CIC confidence.

Couple of my friends got their application returned when they sent just the education documents for DOB. Later they had to get it notarized and keep an explanation letter.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. So the affidavit will work as a explanation letter.

Hi Harry,

If you do not have the DOB certificate go to a notary and get an affidavit with you name, DOB, place of birth and name of parent(s). This is more than enough. I did not have it either and sent some other document and my application was returned, lost 4 weeks in that transition. You might spend a little money on the affidavit but you'll have mental peace at the end.

Good luck.

Hi:

You can include your secondary school certificate as a DOB proof, if it has your father's name.

or get affidavit from your country through your parents explaining about the reason about not having DOB certificate. Instead of affidavit from you, affidavit from your parents would be more reliable I guess.

I am also planning to apply for PR sometime this month. Could someone share the affidavit template please?

Hi Smarty..

Can you please provide the name or address information where you got the affidavit?

Hi

I have one question regarding the same topic. Is there any validity for the Affidavit notarized here in Canada. I do not have Birth certificate and got the affidavit notarized here in Toronto in June 2014 and planning to apply for my PR though CEC next week. Wondering if i can use the same affidavit or should get the new one?? Please suggest

Thanks
Ravi
