AFAIK, Student loans and missed payments don't affect sponsorship application. It is social assistance and EI you need to worry about.naveedali said:Hello,
Can I sponsor my wife if I took OSAP Loan and missed payments in the past few months?
Whats EI? can you explain a bit about it PleaseCofRed said:AFAIK, Student loans and missed payments don't affect sponsorship application. It is social assistance and EI you need to worry about.
No - it's only social assistance that's a problem - also being bankrupt. EI is fine and doesn't stop someone from sponsoring.CofRed said:AFAIK, Student loans and missed payments don't affect sponsorship application. It is social assistance and EI you need to worry about.
Employment Insurance, usually when people get lay off, get sick, they apply for EI. It is a temporary benefit program . But as Scylla pointed out EI is not an issue, so you are good.naveedali said:Whats EI? can you explain a bit about it Please
No never applied for it, did 2 semesters and then went to Pakistan for an year. Didn't pay any OSAP installment thats it.CofRed said:Employment Insurance, usually when people get lay off, get sick, they apply for EI. It is a temporary benefit program . Then you are totally fine. Missed payments might show up on credit history but that's another issue completely unrelated to CIC.naveedali said:No never applied for it, did 2 semesters and then went to Pakistan for an year. Didn't pay any OSAP installment thats it.

To clear things, student loan missed payments will not be a cause of denial of your sponsorship ;D
