Can I leave Canada?

Can a permanent resident leave Canada for 2-3 weeks while an application for common law and dependant child sponsorship is being processed? I would like to go and visit my partner with our child for 2-3 weeks, but I don't know if I am allowed to leave while our application is being processed. If I am not allowed, how would immigration know if I'm out of the country or not? Thanks.

As long as you keep a Canadian residential address, you can go abroad for trips. No problem!

You can go abroad for SHORT trips (i.e. 2-3 weeks).

Hi British_Bulldog,

Either your visit or your partner's visit would not be a problem. Before making a final decision some pf the visa officers used to ask to provide proof that the sponsor currently reside in Canada. That may be just before the PPR. Your partner's visit would be easy if from visa exempted country but should return at the time of PPR.

He has never needed a Visa to visit me before. He is from the UK. Will he need one now that we're in the process of me sponsoring him and our child?

No, if he is a UK citizen you should have no problem.
