Can I leave Canada while on extended visa?

Im a US citizen married to a Canadian citizen. I arrived in Canada June 7 so on december 7 will be my 6months here. I will apply for an extension of visitor visa for another 6 months before that dec7. but we would like to go on vacation to US for the holidays dec20-january15.

Will I still be able to return to Canada? Or will the cbsa deny me entry even if I have an extension of stay?

Yes - you can certainly leave. Whether you are allowed back into Canada will be at the discretion of the CBSA officer you speak to at the border. The extension is only good as long as you remain in Canada.
