Hi Guys,

My study permit and temporary visitor visa is valid till July, 2018. But I'm graduating at the end of this year. The time I receive confirmation letter is approximately 15th Jan, 2018. According to cic, I can apply PGWP before 15th Apr, 2018. During this time, I would like to leave Canada and take a 2-month post-graduation trip. Due to some reasons like no fixed address during this time, I want to start the application for PGWP after my return to Canada. I should be legal to stay in Canada during this time, but I just want to know, am I legally allowed to leave and re-enter Canada during this time?

Thank you very much

Once you complete your program, your status is only valid for 90 days. One of the requirement to apply for PGWP is to have a valid student permit status. You can enter Canada if your visa is still valid. You will probably on implied status, if your student status expired, IF you applied for PGWP BEFORE you left Canada for your vacation. It would be best to apply for PGWP before anything else.

If you will finish your studies earlier than you expected
Your permit will expire 90 days after the day you complete your studies, no matter what the expiry date on the permit is. The 90 days begin:
  • on the date you get the first notification from your school (such as an email, letter, transcript, etc.) that you completed your program or
  • when you get your degree, diploma or certificate.
If you can’t prove the date you were first notified by your school, we will use the earliest issue date on the document. We may need to confirm this date with your school.

Interesting story.
This guy tried to enter Canada with expired status while waiting for PGWP then misrepresented instead.
