Can I leave canada during my PR is in process?

I am on a work permit visa and have submitted by application for PR.

During this process do I need to stay in Canada? Cant I go on vacation to some other country or my home country?

I have heard that for one person application got rejected once IRCC found that the person is temporarily moved out of Canada.

Please clarify and help.
