Dear friends,
I have a question.
I am US permanent resident, and I do not have a valid passport from my country of origin (asylum to US years ago).
I have applied and got a re-entry permit (good for 2 years, Form: I-131) and obviously I have a US green card.
When my Canadian PR gets approved, I believe they will mail me the letter of "Confirmation of Permanent Residence" and I will need to land in Canada with this document in order to become a Canadian permanent resident at that time.
So, I will buy a flight ticket, use my re-entry permit for airline check-in, and green card (to be allowed in Canada without visa) and COPR (to finalize my PR and request plastic to be sent).
My question is: For landing purpose, could I have any problem with the fact that my passport will be my re-entry permit?
P.S.: In the past I have used my re-entry permit to travel to Japan, Europe (with proper visas acquired and printed inside) and haven't had a problem entering those countries, except they usually spend a little more time, because the re-entry permit doesn't look like usual US passports.
P.S.: on CIC, I have read: "You must hold a valid regular passport;
diplomatic, official, service or public affairs passports are not valid for immigration to Canada." but it doesn't mention anything about "re-entry permit" or "refugee travel document"
