Can I holiday in Canada whilst I have a valid Permanent Resident visa?

Hi Forum friends,

Can I take a holiday in Canada whilst I have a valid Permanent Resident visa, then return to Canada at a later date to complete my immigration? I wish to make an investigative field trip holiday to Canada, but I will probably receive my PR visa by the time I go on holiday. Can I enter Canada as a holiday maker, return to the UK after the holiday then return to Canada to complete my immigration?

If you have the PR visa already by the time you go, you can land when you make your holiday. I do not know if you can come to Canada as a visitor if you already have your PR visa in your passport. Don't buy the tickets in advance in case they will have your passport by the time you want to go.

Many thanks for the response Leon. I'm not sure that they will ask for my passport to complete the Permanent Resident application process. I understand I will simply receive a Right Of Landing document which I take to the Border Personnel at the entry airport. I'm thinking I can possibly avoid doing that and arrive as a visitor usually does. The only PR card I would get is if I applied for one when I am in Canada. Perhaps I need to do that when I am there on holiday.

Yes you will have to submit your passport to receive COPR. You PR card is processed during the "landing" procedure.

Hi Leon and PMM,

Sorry for my confusion, I now realise that receiving the 'visa' actually means I will receive two parts, the COPR document AND a visa in my passport, therefore the High Commission will ask for that at some point. I will heed Leon's advise that I must be aware of not booking this field trip holiday yet in case the HC ask for my passport.

I'll post another question relating to this under a different heading.
