Hello!

I live in Canada, and my mom lives abroad and does not have Canadian citizenship.
I am a director of limited company and I would like to employ my mom. Can I apply for work permit for her and is this allowed at all?

Also: I recently became father, can I hire my mom as a nanny for my son?

(I live in British Columbia).

Many thanks...

To qualify to apply as a nanny, your mother must have one year of full time related paid work experience in the last three years - or six months of related full time studies in the last three years.

To hire your mother through your limited company, you will first have to advertise the roll in Canada and prove you could not find a Canadian to hire for the roll. You will then have to request approval to hire your mother through the Labour Market Opinion process and demonstrate that your mother has skills / experience that you could not find in a Canadian candidate.

Even if she qualifies, in both cases CIC may refuse the work permit since they may believe your mother is using the work permit as a way of getting to Canada (i.e. staying in Canada long term is her primary objective / goal).
