I applied refugee protection inside Canada last week, got AOC and did medical exam last week.
And I also want to start school in September. Will I get the study permit before hearing?
What is the timeline? And I also need to apply for work permit to support family.

Thank you very very very much!

You can try to get a study permit. It is hit or miss. You will need to pay international fees. Yes you are able to get a WP. If anything it is expected that adults get a work permit and they go out to work or commit to learning English or French so they don't need welfare.

Thank you so much. I see my study permit has transferred to Edmonton case center. Then I called IRCC customer service, the agent told me it's gonna take 12 months to process! :( Though on the website, it said the processing time is 10 weeks.

Don’t think it will take 12 months but you aren’t going to be processed like people with status applying from Canada. You will need to be accepted as an international student and show that you have 25k+. Your primary concern needs to be your asylum hearing and supporting your family,

Keep in mind if you get Study permit you're only allowed to work part-time (max 20 hours per week) because the permit means you're a FULL-TIME student. Would you be able to supply your family financially with part time salary?

I actually got full scholarship, so tuition fee is not a concern. That is true my primary concern is waiting for the work permit also. I hope I can go to school while working part time to support my family. It is so hard, I worried I am gonna lose the chance of going to school with full scholarship if I don't get study permit on time. Whichever comes first will be better than waiting.

ALSO, you need to have a letter of acceptance from the school you want to attend. See here

Apply for a study permit
If you already submitted your refugee claim, but didn’t apply for a permit at the same time, you can apply for a study permit separately. A study permit lets you go to school while you’re waiting for a decision on your claim.

With your application, you need to provide a letter of acceptance from the school.

I think with full scholarship + stipends + 20 hours part time job, we'll be live on the edge. Education is building for future to get a better job.

Thank you, I did that and submitted letter of acceptance and scholarship letter. Hopefully it will proof I have enough funding. Now my concern is the 12 months processing time. People with status in Canada only takes 10 weeks, but i called IRCC agent told me mine is gonna take 12 months. What a disappointment! Do you know how long will the hearing happening?

10 weeks is just an estimate. Could be much shorter or much longer the posted times are not very reliable. Did your spouse apply for asylum as well? They can apply for a WP and start working full-time and combine that with your 20 hrs/week. Have you spoken to your lawyer about the chances of success when it comes to your asylum claim?

That sucks to wait without a timeline. My spouse did not apply for asylum, so I am on my own with my child in Canada. My lawyer is through legal aid, it is so hard to reach him. I didn't get enough time to talk to my lawyer yet.

Obviously your priority must be to provide an income for your child or I’m not sure how you will provide. Even welfare may not allow you to provide for your child and you don’t qualify for child benefit which would provide a little bit of extra income.
