Hello all !

I am applying for Residency under CEC by end of this month. My girl friend is international student doing her PhD at University.
We are suppose to get marry by end of this year in INDIA.

To add her to my application as wife. I am thinking of applying for marriage license in canada. And getting married in front of commissioner .

Do you advice to go through this process and put her in my application process or should i wait till december and add her to my application later.

If she legally becomes your wife on the date of filing your application, you can include her.
If not, then go ahead and file your application alone and later whenever your status changes lawfully, you can add her.

If you have lived together for at least 1 year, you are common-law and should include her in your application from the start.

I always find this interesting. The CRA treats you as common-law after 12 months for tax purposes. The CIC website uses the language at least 12 months.

However common law marriages are set in provincial family law. The actual requirement varies from province to province. In Manitoba it is 3 years (unless you have a child and other conditions, or voluntarily declare to be common law).

Well, Whole point of asking this question is :

1. As I am applying for my PR this month, but my marriage is schedule at end of this year. So I think if i get marry in CANADA and put her in application it will make things for easy me and her. Though we wont be moving in together before our traditional marriage which is in DEC. So what you people advice ?

2. Also I have to find out how to get marry in CANADA. I am not sure what to do after getting marriage licence from REGISTRY. Any one know cheap way of doing this ?

3. Also, If my future wife is a international PhD student ( on study permit) here and getting paid by University. Will she be a dependent in my CEC application ?

Thanks

Senoritta, she live upstair with three girls and I live in basement with a guy. I am sure, it wont add her as common in law though address is same.
