Can I get a visitors visa If I remained in Canada once my status expired?

So here is the deal people I need some help, because I'm not sure what to do now.

I went to Canada in 2012 with a work visa for 1 year, my status allowed me to stay in Canada and work legally from August 2012 to August 2013. I purposely remained in Canada for 90 days past my expiration date, which was August 6, 2013. The reason I stayed in Canada was because my employer had problems paying me CAD$2500 that he owed me for a job, which eventually never paid me. Although I knew I had to leave Canada before my permit expired, a friend of mine who used to work at immigration told me that I could remain in Canada for 90 days passed the expiration date on my permit, that it was not the best thing to do, but that it was only an offence and during those 90 days I could apply for another visa, in my case, I wanted to apply for a visitors visa, so I could stay in Canada a couple more months, travel and enjoy the snowboarding season. To get a visitors visa you need proof of funds (somewhere around CAD$3000) Long story short, my employer never plaid me, he just disappeared one day and I lost that money. I was counting on that money to get a visitors visa because the money that I had left was not enough to prove I had funds (around CAD$1500). I came back to my country on November 4th. But now my Canadians friends are inviting me to go back as a visitor and go on that snowboarding trip we had planned.

I have everything I need to get a visitors visa, proof of funds, valid passport, clean record, etc. The only thing that worries me is that in one of the forms they ask me if I ever remained in Canada passed the expiration of my status, which I'll answer truthfully and attach a written letter explaining the reasons I remained in Canada and why I want to go back.

I will add that in the last 10 years I've travelled to the USA in 3 different occasions, Jamaica, Bahamas, Argentina, Brazil, and always came back to Chile. Also, If I wanted to stay in Canada illegally, I could have done it already, but I didn't, because I like to do things by the book.

Can anyone here tell me if my chances are good or slim? a friend who lives in Canada told me I might even be banned from entering Canada for 2 years. Is this a real possibility?

I really want to go back and see my friends, go snowboarding and do the things I neglected because I worked for that guy who ripped me off. What are my chances people?

Thanks.
