Can I bar my wife from entering Canada?

I got into drug abuse around the time we submitted the sponsorship application. I've been receiving treatment and things are picking up but not quite. I'm currently $10,000 in debt and I have no ability to rent anywhere or afford to support another person. My wife's visa has 10 more months left and I wish for her to stay in her country until I can build up funds in that time period.

My wife insists that she come here now but I can't support her. I can't even pick her up from the airport because my car's uninsured and it didn't pass emissions. I'm living in a less desirable living space and I can't have her stay here. Her flight's booked on June 14th. We didn't agree on this date so can I tell the immigration officers to send her back to her country when she's doing her landing? She doesn't even know my exact address which I know she will need during the landing process.

There are a few things that are unclear here.

Did she actually get approved for PR? You call what she has a visa, but it sounds more like the Confirmation of Permanent Residence, which is not a visa. Or does she have a visitor visa? Can you clarify what exactly you mean here?

Yeah it's Decision Made. She got a visa stamp on the passport allowing her to enter Canada and stay here permanently. It's valid for 1 year. She booked a flight for June but I'm not ready yet. I'm expecting her to arrive in January or whenever I can pay back all my debts, whichever happens first.

The only way you can stop her from entering Canada is by withdrawing your support of her application completely. However in that case her visa will be canceled completely and when you are ready for her to come to Canada, you will have to sponsor her again from scratch.

Sounds like she cares about you and is wanting to help you.

You'll have to let the process run and work out your issues together-- that's what couples do! :)

This is a good time to let her know and ask her to delay her flight, you can't involve CIC before she is aware of it. I am sure she loves and misses you that why she wants to come as soon as possible. If you talk to her and be frank for the sake of her trust, she will understand and be supportive. you need a good reason withdraw your application at this stage(DM) .Barring her will cancel everything and start over again in the future with attached consequences.

1) Tell her what you are going through and explain everything clearly.
2) Tell her you need time to recover
3) Check all possible alternatives and carefully chose the right one
4) If you stop her entry into Canada, chances are she won't be able to come again very easily.
Besides it will create bad example.

ONLY OPEN CONVERSATION WITH YOUR SPOUSE MAY SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

Good luck.

Yes, try to talk to your wife and convince her to come later in the year. She just has to land before the visa expires; she doesn't have to come right away.
I would not ask immigration or the border agents to not let her land. For one thing, it may not work. It is also a waste of money. You could prevent her from landing (probably) by telling CIC you want to withdraw your sponsorship, but if you do this, you will have to redo the sponsorship from the beginning, including paying the fees again. In addition, doing this will make it much more difficult to sponsor her later - CIC will wonder why you didn't just let her land, and will be suspicious if you apply again later.

It sounds like you dont want her to come to canada....dont make having a 10000debt is the reason y you dont want her to come in that case i have 50000 debt and i still want my wife to come over.think positive if she comes over fond a job you both can build on your life together. To me you sound weird the fact that u not hapoy to see your wife coming even though whatever reason u put forward to rationalize it. Sorry if i sounded rude.

I agree. Seems like there is something more here besides the drug abuse. I mean, its either you love her or you don't. Quite frankly sounds like you don't because you would want your wife by your side to support you and help you get through this...

Meanwhile all of us are sitting here waiting for that golden ticket to see our spouses and others just take it for granted.

Your post seen so cold and uncaring. Phrases like telling immigration officer to send her back to her country, your wife not knowing your exact address etc makes one wonder if this is about more than money. Like others have said if you 'bar' your wife from landing and her visa expires ,you guys face a tougher application process ahead...something tells me you don't care about the consequence.
