Can I apply PGWP and spousal open work permit TOGETHER?

I recently graduated from a university and become eligible to apply the Post-graduation Work Permit (PGWP). Previously I was holding a study permit and my husband was holding an open work permit that is dependent on mine. Both our permits expire this August.

I am holding a job offer which falls in NOC Category A. I have accepted the offer and signed the contract. But the job will only begin in July.

Can I apply PGWP and my husband's spousal open work permit TOGETHER?
Or my husband can only apply spousal open work permit AFTER I obtain my PGWP permit and the first payslip from my employer?

I'm just a bit worried about the expiry date so I intend to do the first option of applying together. But the fact that there's not much discussion about applying together makes me hesitate. If any one has experiences on this, please kindly share; it would be greatly appreciated. I guess there are many ppl who have the same situation as mine.

No - you can't. You will have to wait until July (once you are actually working in your job) before you will be able to apply for the SOWP.

I am in a similar situation.
I will try to keep it short though it's complex...

What are the chances of approval of my OWP if applied TOGETHER with my spouse’s PGWP?

My situation:
Current in Canada on OWP corresponding to spouse’s study permit which expires on Sep 30, 2015.
I have a job as a Systems Analyst. My employer wants to keep me with them at least till June 30, 2016 provided I have the requisite validity of work permit (which currently is only till Sep 30, 2015).

My spouse (husband)’s situation:
Currently in Canada on study permit (and co-op work permit) and is completing his co-op which ends on Jun 26, 2015 (either permit valid till Sep 30, 2015 as stated before).
He currently does not have any job lined up after finishing co-op on Jun 26, 2015.

What we intend to do is apply for my OWP TOGETHER with my spouse’s PGWP application.
This is possible in myCIC portal as the option for application of my OWP TOGETHER with my spouse’s PGWP application is displayed, if you answer all the questions the portal asks correctly.

What we don’t know is whether my OWP in this scenario will be approved or not.
Do any you have gone through similar situations or know some of your friends who have gone through this scenario?
Do any one of you know for certain whether my OWP application be approved or rejected?

Hi,

There is no official answer to this question. I also tried to search around and I got conflicting answers from different sources. Some say that there were people who apply together and get it. Some say that there were ppl who get rejected. On the official website, it says that you can only apply the spousal open work permit AFTER you have your post graduation work permit and a payslip from your job (that job must be in NOC 0,A,B).

Nowadays the application fee for work permit is quite expensive ($255 each person) so I don't want to take any risk. I have already applied PGWP and waiting for the outcome. Note that I actually have a job which falls in NOC A. Once I got the PGWP, I can submit spousal open work permit application for my husband together with my payslip.

I think your chance of getting OWP is even slimmer than my husband's chance, because currently the principle applicant (your husband) does not have any job.

Hi,

my spouse has an open work permit and my study permit and both expiring on 01 Aug, 2015. I have a fulltime permanent job offer in a skilled category job, since it takes too much time (currently 89 days) to process PGWP, we have applied for my PGWP and spouse open work permit extension at the same time on May 23, 2015, I have attached my fulltime permanent job offer letter with my spouse open work permit application but could not add my salary stub as I was not received my first salary stub at the time of application. then my wife called CIC on Jun 05, 2015 and added a note on her application that she want to add my salary stub to the application.

I don't know if this is going to work, but my wife can not simply wait for my PGWP, as her open work permit would have expired by the time.

Hi Jaison784,
You had mentioned that you had already submitted your emolyment letter with the application of your spouse and then called CIC to put a note under your application about your pay stub.

Why did CIC ask you to upload the employment letter AGAIN to your spouse application.?

I am asking because I have applied to extend my SOWP along with my wife who has recently graduated and applied for PGWP. We applied together not realizing that my SOWP will not be renewed automatically . It will only be approved if we had attached the employment letter of my wife who has a part time job under NOC 'A'.

Do I use IRCC web form to upload her employment contract?

Type of application/enquiry= Temporary residence(Applied online)

Type of application/enquiry (continued)=Temporary residence(Applied online)- Work Permit

Please Clear this doubt for me.

Thank you for your time and guidance

Note- I am currently working in NOC 'A' job but I am of the knowledge that my employment letter will not help to renew my SOWP as if I wanted to do that then I would have to apply for LIMA.

Your wife needs to have a permanent full-time job in skilled category if you want to get an extension for your SOWP

I submitted job offer letter in a skilled category job at the time of my PGWP application, then CIC asked for a reference letter from employer confirm the details of employment when they were processing my wife's SOWP.
