Hi Experts,

Plz share your expert opinion - based upon my situation below - can I apply for work permit ?

1. I have applied for PR and have received 1st stage approval.
2. I have a valid Visitor visa for next 10 years and I am in canada right now - stamp on visa/passport says I can stay for over 6.5 months in canada.
3. my husband is a PR.

My questions are -

1. Can I apply for work permit ?
2. Do I mandatorily need to have an employer before I apply for work permit ?

Regards,
CANIND

As explained in your other thread, only inland spousal sponsorship qualify for an open work permit. Since you applied outland, you don't qualify for an open work permit.

If you can find an employer who is willing to give you a full time role and that employer can obtain an approved LMIA, you can then apply for a closed work permit tied to that specific employer.

Having a husband who is a PR does not entitle you to an OPW. Having a TRV does not entitle you to an OWP. Having an outland sponsorship application in progress does not entitle you to an OWP. The only option is a closed work permit. A closed work permit required a full time job offer and approved LMIA.

Thanks a lot SCYLLA for the clear and detailed answer.

I was a bit confused and thought that this category is probably the right forum to ask questions about work permits - so posted it here as well.
