This is a bit confusing on the CIC website, but is it possible?
If I get a positive LMO and all my application ready, can I send it from Canada to my local embassy, staying in Canada as a visitor?
I'm italian, by the way, so I do not need a temporary resident visa to stay as a visitor.

Then go to the closest border and get your WP from there. Bring CAD$150.00 with you and your LMO, contract and proof that you qualify for the job, i.e. if your job type is not on health or food industry. You'd need medicals for these types.

You don't have to go all the way to the Consulate in Buffalo? You only have to exit to the US side, then go back to the Canadian side and obtain your Wp at the Port of Entry. Check that the CBSA office you are going to have the services you require.

Oh really?
I could go to Buffalo (from Toronto) and get my WP from the US?

The job I found it's in information techonology, so I would only need police certificates, I think. Am I wrong?

Yeah, sorry, I just realized that, which is why I deleted my last post.. I was actually reading many other topics like mine, but I still can't find one listing all the documents you need when you apply at the POE.

As far as I know you need:
- LMO
- Contract from employer
- Proofs you meet the requirments

1. Do you need to show you have some funds available?
2. Do you need police checks?
3. Also, how long does it take to actually receive the TWP? Is it done by the day?
4. I've also read that a letter from the employer, saying that you are applying at the POE in order to speed up the times can help. Is it true?

Can anyone help?

2. Do you need police checks? It's always worth a try. You may not need it having been allowed to enter Canada.
3. Also, how long does it take to actually receive the TWP? Is it done by the day? Within the day. Probably, less than an hour depending upon the volume of people who are there.
4. I've also read that a letter from the employer, saying that you are applying at the POE in order to speed up the times can help. Is it true? The employer does not know when or where you're applying. They know though that it would take quite sometime before you obtain your WP.

Can anyone help?

Thank you!!!

And, if for any reason they do not give a TWP at the POE, will I still be able to re-enter Canada as a visitor again?

You are from a country that does no need a visa, right? And for how long is your allowed visit? Check your passport for the stamp. Hmmm. actually, POE officers are gods and they can always let you in or deny you entry (no rights for visitors, onle privileges). But I don't think the officers are THAT inconsiderate, deny you entry because you're trying to get your WP from there.

Well, I'm not in Canada yet. I'm asking these questions in order to make a decision about which flights to book.
In this worst case, I hope they will let me in if I show a return flight to Italy from Toronto!

Thank you for your help! :)

Oh oh. That is what I call pro active. Anyway, if you already have your LMO (when you come), let the officer know you're coming in as a worker. Else if you intend to find employment after you're admitted, then yes, you can obtain your WP at the border during your allowed visit.

No, I don't have the LMO yet (which is why I would enter as a visitor).

I've been waiting in Italy for the LMO response since June and it just got denied for "lack of information". My employer-to-be will probably re-apply again, adding more information, but I really don't want to wait another 4-5 months here (plus 3 month for the Letter of Approval from the Rome Embassy).

And I was also thinking that - eventually - after 1 year living with my girlfriend, I could just request a PR because of our common-law relationship. This is why I thought to come as a visitor as soon as possible. And if I get a positive LMO before 12 months (even better), I could request a TWP from the border.

Do you think I could be fine this way? Can you suggest a better plan? :S

Coming in as a visitor and finding an employer would be a good plan. And if you didn't find an employer, request for extension of your visitor status (assuming you're living in with your girlfriend), she can sponsor you after one year. This is assuming you would have merged your lives together (start gathering proofs of your relationship); she can then sponsor you under common law partner category.

You have to send your application to a visa/consulate office outside Canada, the US being the closest or to your country of origin.

Thanks give me prompt reply.

How much chances that I will get work permit after getting positive LMO?

If I get work permit within Canada on visitor visa so still I have to leave Canada and re enter in Canada on new status?

You can do that, leave Canada, apply from your home country and come back as a worker. You can also send your application to the US (Buffalo or Seattle). The only hindrance to applying in the US would be if you don't have a US visa and you are called for an interview. If you have a positive LMO, then there's a high probability you'll be given a WP especially if the employer showed recruitment efforts were made but no Canadian citizen or PR applied or qualified.
