Can I apply for Work permit once I am in Canada on TRV?

Hi!
My wife is in Canada on Study Permit and I am going to Canada on TRV-less than 6 months in near future and.
As my wife is an international student, I am eligible for OWP. However, I have once read on CIC website that one cannot apply for WP/SP if he/she is in Canada on TRV. Contrary to that, one of my friends suggested me that according to new laws I can apply for OWP within Canada once you are in Canada on TRV. Can anyone the information provided by my friend?
Can I apply for OWP within Canada once I'm in Canada on TRV?

I *think* you may be confusing the types of visas/permits here. An open work permit allows you to seek employment while in Canada. A work permit is considered a closed work permit and requires an actual offer of employment first, then an approval of an LMO for the employer before you can even enter Canada to work.

I will defer to more senior members as to whether you can actually apply for an OWP if you are in Canada on a TRV. Since you are there to accompany your wife who is there on a student visa, i think you may be eligible for one. Also, does your wife's permit have restrictions about her working? i would imagine if she can't work, neither can you.

You can submit an OWP application once in Canada on TRV, it would have to be attached to your wife's study permit. She is allowed to bring her partner while studying.
