My sis in Australia is getting married, however the wedding date is two weeks after my work permit expires. This is something I really WANT to attend. I am using a lawyer and so using their office as the mailing address, from look of things I won't get be getting my AOR until a month before my work permit expires. If I apply for the BWOP few weeks before I leave Canada to attend my sis wedding can I re enter with the BWOP? My lawyer said they would courier the BWOP to my address in Australia, I'm not really intending on implied status as I want to go back to Australia to visit relatives and the wedding. Is this possible?

Do you need an entry visa to come to Canada? If yes, then BOWP alone wouldn't let you enter the country. You'll need TRV.

If your passport is visa-exempt then you don't need BOWP to enter anyway.

That's a really good question, since one of the eligibility criteria for the BOWP is that "The foreign national is currently in Canada."

It's not really clear to me if the intent is "physically present," or "resident," but I believe that it does mean you must be physically present, otherwise you'd lose your eligibility for the BOWP. You would certainly lose your implied status, and if you returned to Canada before you received your BOWP, you wouldn't be able to work.

Based on this, I would say that your plan is risky. I suggest you show this info to your lawyer, let them clarify this point with CIC.

Hi Broiler,

Could you please let me know if you had found out something on this. I am also in the same situation. I will have to apply BOWP and have to leave the country after 15 days I applied BOWP. I will not receive BOWP by the time I leave Canada. My friend in Canada will receive my BOWP at his address and he will courier to my address in India. I will probably come back to Canada after 3 months , ofcourse by applying TRV using BOWP.

Seniors, Could any of you please help if you are sure about this ?

I am Australian, and I was in the States when my BOWP arrived at my Canada address. When I re-entered into Canada I showed them my BOWP approval letter, which I got on email and they let me in. They did try to print me a new BOWP but the system wouldn't let them as it had already been sent to me in Canada, so they just stamped my passport and let me through :)

I would suggest applying online for the BOWP as this will give you an email confirmation when you submit it, as well as an email confirming the approval once it has been processed. I don't think paper applications get this.

Australia is visa exempt - we don't need TRV's.

If you apply for TRV based on your BOWP you can enter into Canada. One of my friend applied for BOWP when he was in Canada but left to his home country as his work contract was over here. Later after he got his BOWP, he applied for TRV and he is now in Canada.
