Can i accompany my wife, she is going on study visa

Hi All,

i need help. i am planning to send my wife to Canada for further studies. She completed her Master's in Computer Application in 2006.

two question:

1. i am told that she wont get study visa as there is more than 5 years of gap since she last attended college.
2. i cannot accompany her atleast for the first 6 months and there is no guarantee of getting TRV even after that.

Is that true?

Somebody please answer as i dont have much time. I am planning for the September term.

2) You will apply independently, there is no visa tied up to her anyways

you said i will apply independently but on what basis?? i guess i will apply TRV because my wife will be getting study visa. Am i wrong?

You will apply on tourist basis, like any other application

Hi, if your wife is accepted as a full-time student at an eligible Canadian college or university, then you would be allowed to apply for an open work permit, which would have the same duration as her study permit. You would still need a TRV. See this link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-spouse.asp

Also note that after 6 months of full-time study, she would be able to apply for an off-campus work permit for herself, which would allow her to work up to 20 hours per week. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-offcampus.asp

Just FYI - I was in Singapore when I applied for my wife's TRV. I had a decent job & My wife got admission with a good school in Canada. I had submitted our application together (myself applying for Open Work Permit, my Son & my Wife). Many people told me away from doing it. But I didnt have any problem. Singapore approval was in 10 days. I am in Canada now.

The bottom line is - they look at your complete application (finance, education, etc etc ) & give them every reason why you will come back to your home country.
