Apologies in advance, you may have to treat me like an idiot here.
I have a UK/Canada passport, I was offered 5 months job contract in the UK, with the potential for extension.

I would like to know the specific steps I need to take before leaving Canada.
Additionally, after I leave, what should I do regarding taxes the following year? Since there won't be a T4 slip, how do I file my taxes correctly?

Do I need to have taxes deducted from my paycheque and pay my taxes to the CRA, then filing for a refund from the UK HMRC?

Has anyone gone through this process and can provide me with a quick rundown and what documents I will need?

Thank you

Check if there's a tax treaty between Canada and the UK to avoid double taxation. You may need to file for a refund in the UK, but keep track of your earnings and taxes withheld.

I went through a similar situation when I worked abroad for a few months. First off, definitely check in with the CRA about your residency status before you leave. They can guide you on whether you need to keep paying taxes in Canada while working in the UK. As for taxes, you won’t get a T4 since you’ll be earning in the UK. Keep records of your income and any taxes withheld. You might have to file with HMRC and show your Canadian income, but they often have guides to help with that. One thing that really helped me was reaching out to a VAT consultancy for advice on handling my earnings abroad. They had great insights on tax obligations and filing, which made everything clearer.
