Can a dependant become a primary applicant?

Hi everyone,

Our WP is about to end but still no hope on PR at this time. I'm a dependant on my husband study permit now. Can I become a primary individual to study and my husband then become my dependant so we can extend our stay in Canada? Anyone in the same situation? Any advice is much appreciated!

Isn’t your husband going to get a PGWP? He can’t get an open work permit if you get a study permit. There are new rules that came into effect so your husband is not eligible for SOWP as he is considered the Principal Foreign National (PFN). This refers to the person/foreign national who first applied for temporary status in Canada – in this case, the student.
