Dear Members,

I am a foreign graduate earned my two year masters degree from Canada and have completed one year of full time work experience (Jun 14, 2010 to till date) with a single employer (under the listed skill set A), working for 40 hours/week and hence planning to apply for PR via Experience Class category.

I was away from Canada (receiving my full salary) during 3 different periods:
a) 2 weeks (Nov 2010/Dec 2010)
b) 2 and half weeks (Dec 2010/Jan 2011)
c) 3 weeks (May 2011)

Is this period counted as work experience period or do I have to compensate for my absence from Canada (even though I was getting my salary paid) and then apply?

If 1950 hours is the needed number, considering 40 hours/week it makes 49 weeks of work.
However, I heard that it is the period of physical presence in Canada that is counted. I am not quite sure about it.

Please advice.

Regards,
Sri

Thank you for your reply and you are correct.

I also called up the CIC call center (1 888 242-2100 in canada or 1-613-944-4000 and after choosing immigration option, and english, wait for the options to repeat twice/thrice and finally it will be transferred to a call center professional and wait for 10 mins) and here is what they guided:

We are entitled for 2 weeks of vacation yearly (as per canadian labor market standards) and any period more than 2 weeks needs to be compensated (even if you are entitled for more than 2 weeks at work).

Thank you.

Sri, if those periods were vacation or related to your Canadian-based employment, they do count towards your work experience. You do not have to deduct them.

I wonder what happens if you are away from Canada for job-related work and not holidays for say, three-four months? For example to do research....thanks
