Hi Folks ,

I live in US and I am about to begin my Canadian Immigration processing (all by myself) . I believe I have to send my first set of application to the Buffalo , NY . I got information about the required docs to this office from the canadainternational.gc.ca website .

It mentions about filling the IMM 0008 Schedule 3 PDF - Economic Classes - Federal Skilled Worker form . The form does talk about the english proficiency , does it mean that I have to take the IELTS exam well before I send my applicaiton ? . I was under impression that I can send the applicaiton and then take the exam and later I report my test results in the second set of applications (which will be sent to visa office in Canada) . Please throw some light in this issue . Thanks in advance for your help !! .

The first stage

You have to send the following dcouments to the CIO canada and not Buffalo :

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/imm0008egen.pdf - ( Application for Permanent Residence in Canada)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/imm0008_1e.pdf - ( Schedule 1: Background/Declaration)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5406E.PDF - ( Additional Family Information)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5612E.PDF - ( Document Checklist)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/imm0008_3e.pdf - ( Schedule 3: Economic Classes)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5620E.pdf (Fee Payment Form)

and have a deep look at the document checklist above to see the required documents that you need to send with your application at the first stage and mail your application to one of the following addresses :

The second stage

When you recive the approval letter from the CIO by mail or email states that your application is eligible and recommanded for further processing, you will have to send copies of all of the above applications along with the suporting documents, and the approval letter from the CIO to the Buffalo visa in the following address :

Canadian Consulate General
Immigration Regional Program Centre
1 HSBC Center, Suite 3000
Buffalo, NY 14203-2884
U.S.A.

you will find all of the supporting dcouments and applications required to the second satge in the following Checklist :

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/E37048.pdf - ( Appendix A checklist)(visa office specific instructions - Buffalo)

and here are the instructions guide to help you on how to fill the applications step by step :

(Instruction Guide) - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/EG7.pdf

and here is another link for the instruction manual to see exactly how will the visa officers process your application :

(instruction manual) - http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/resources/manuals/op/op06-eng.pdf

Important notice:

"It is better to take the IELTS test before you send your application to the CIO to know exactly how many points you will be granted for the language, and be in the safe side."

good luck

Hi Folks ,

Thanks a bunch , for your quick response . I stand corrected and I am clear with the routing of documents .

Hey Professional1 ,

Thanks for the detailed email . I am pretty much confident that I can clear IELTS . I checked with a moderate effeciency in English and I still cleared the threshold value of 67 . I looked at the Schedule 3: Economic Classes (IMM08_3e) form it talks about the english proficiency scores . Does it mean we have to take the IELTS score before sending the application . I am little confused with this . Thanks again for your inputs .

Thanks to everyone for your time

No it does not mean that you have to take the IELTS before you send your application to the CIO, if the estimated level of proficiency you claimed was above or below what you have written in the forms, just simply modify it when you get your IELTS results before you send your full documents to Buffalo.

Thanks for the update . So in the form , IMM0008_3e , in question 6 it asks about Language and I have to take the first check box "Yes" , but will not provide any test score proof . But I will do that when I send the second set of applications to Buffalo . Right ? . Please clarify .

Thanks so much again !!

Yes that is exactly right, and even if you have taken the IELTS test before you apply for the CIO, you must not send the IELTS results to the CIO. It is only to be sent to the visa office "Buffalo".

Hi professional

The stages that you have highlighted do they also apply to FSW 3 - i.e a person who has worked in Canada legally for 1 year - has a 3 year work permit and wife has an open work permit ?

Does the job being performed have to fit into the NOC ?

Tx in advance

Hi simplesimon,

The stages are exactly the same but the procedure is not the same.

If you apply under the FSW 3, you will have to be working or studying in canada for at least one year before you submit your application to the CIO, but your work experience does not have to fall under the 38 list of jobs announced by the minister.

However, your work experience has to fall under one of the three levels of the national occupational classification in canada" NOC" which are level A, or B, or 0.

Hey Professional1 ,

Thanks a lot for your advice . You have been great support !! . I am trying to fill the IMM0008_3e form and in the work experience section , I see that there is a Occupation & NOC column . In my IT experience my designation were like Programmer Analyst , Software Engineer , Tech Consultant etc ... . Do I need to put those designation in the "Occupation" column / do I need to just put it as "Programmer Analyst" with NOC as 2174 .
Please let me know .

Also , the main duties section , though the employers are different the kind of job an IT Professional does are more/less the same . Can I use the same duties for my entire IT Experience / should it be different ? . Please clarify .

Thanks again for your time & effort .

Which category are you applying for ? do you know that NOC 2174 does not fall under the 38 list of jobs, so it does not qualify under FSW 1 ?

Check out the list of NOCs eligible to apply under the FSW 1 in the following link:

Hi Professional1 ,

I am applying under 4131 category . I have total 8 years of experience and out of which 6 years in IT(2174)
and 23 months as Company Trainer(4131) . I believe this qualifies me for applying under the 4131 category . Since , 2174 is in Skill A I believe I can also count my IT experience when considering my total experience . Please confirm my understanding .

Thanks a bunch again ...
