My application is filed by my employer and they are doing layoff now.

does anybody know what is going to happen to such application is PR is filed by employer and one looses job?
is PR application will be void is such cases?

if you are inside and canada and you are going to a US border by road you dont need to have a valid TRV. Renewal and new work permit can be done provided you have a valid status in canada currently (visitor or worker). I have done it in lacole border without issues. But you need to have all supporting documents, employment letter, application to CIC submitted etc.. once you submit they will send you acknowledgement to go to nearest border to collect your work permit.

If you are visa exempt then you can actually do the same at the port of entry(in airport also) you can come into canada from other country and do it at port of entry.

Thanks for your information. Can you please tell me a bit more about work permit extension? My work permit already expired @ April 2012. I am currently on student visa. I have a CSQ and a post-graduation degree from Quebec. I am waiting for PR. Now If I have job offer from a company at Quebec what can I do to extend my work permit. Do I need to apply for CAQ? How many days it takes to process the work permit @ Border "Bernard Lacolle".

@northernd - as of June 2012 CSQ holders dont need to apply for LMO/CAQ (unless you are working in regulated professions). with CSQ, employment letter you submit your WP application to CPC- vergville or online @cic.gc.ca and it will take 3-4 weeks to process and get reply. If required they might ask you to do medicals else they will send acknoledgement you can go to nearest border with all supporting documents flag pole the us side border and reenter to get the wP. But without applying to CPC-Vergerville or CIC online dont go to the border they wont process applications on the go...you need to have submitted the application before going to lacole border.. otherwise you should be visa exempt as sharru told... without applying to cpc vegville you can collect at border (but if your profession is regulated you need to apply)

if I had known this I would have gone there to renew my WP.
I am in Montreal near Parc Extension.

it looks like you applied recently and got your medicals with a month? is it correct?

yes syed...i am 2012 applicant...application sent in jan'12...and after medicals no more progress..its 9months now.. but from what i see i will have to wait for min 5 more months...hope something comes up... you guys will go first!! lets c...

yes, I already crossed period. and I know some thing is not good about my application process.
when every I contacted them they say that is under process and I have nothing do at this time..
and i contact MP few weeks back..mostly with a week or two I get some news

I have a friend with the same problem. more than a year, yet no med request.

While I dont think this could be normal in a normal situation, but with everything being in-normal in our cases, i dont get worried a lot.
Best way is to speak with MPs in such scenarios.

Yes you dont need to have LMO/CAQ. Attach your copy of CSQ, employment letter follow this link and register yourself with you current client id in your WP (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/e-services/work.asp)

everything you can attach online and submit the payment and application details and will be acknowledged duly. you need original letter from employer and if you have done immigration medicals in the recent past(within 1year) attach that receipt as well... you are done! see this page of quebec immigration...that clarifies things very clearly... They have assigned your Secondary VO to Detroit, you shouldn't be waiting long. Hey Sharuu, whats your secondary VO in your latest GCMS?

Buffalo.. I guess thats another check you guys getting GCMS to do. It means your file is heading to Detroit once PPR is requested for passport to issue Visa from. You are a may transfer so that just shows they are still working on May transfers.
