BSc and NOC 0213

After reading the post from Summerlong in the IT Manager thread (sorry I am not allowed to post links), I am a bit worried

I have just applied for FSW1 under NOC 0213 (used Cambell Cohen as representatives), the app is still at CIU. Although I have all the experience for 0213 and I believe I have a very good case, I do not have a BSc degree. I have a BA degree in a social science. Nothing seemed to raise a red flag with the lawyer whilst doing the initial submission, but now I am concerned it will be rejected due to the degree. Has anyone been accepted recently in this category with a non-technical degree or are they intepreting "usually requires a degree in engineering..." as "always requires"?

I know there is some latitude for the IO to make a decision, but I am trying to gauge how worked up I will need to get about the 100 other things I need to get done. If there's no realistic chance of this getting approved, I am not going to sweat all the FBI delays, etc.

Any thoughts?

hey be optimistic I am also traveling in the same boat,I do not have any computer related degree.I have dome similar BA pass in social sciences.I have 2 years Diploma in computers and few internationally recognized certifications.I will be done with MBA program in few months but its not related to IT.I have applied under NOC 0213.

I have heard that people with just B.COM pass or honors have got through because they had the relevant experience(As accountants).They were not CA or ICWA but they are through.There is always a chance and rest is all your luck.

Thanks for the encouragement, I wish you well too. I never realized or even considered how difficult they make it to immigrate. I was born and grew up in the US and always took for granted that we are a "nation of immigrants", but looking at the US requirements they look tougher than Canada for a PR. I guess these countries are managing growth more and the rotten economy certainly doesn't encourage them to let people in.

I guess at this point it's too early to do much more than cross my fingers and hope.

You do realize that most people that apply to Canada under 0213 from US are either running close to their max. allowed stay on their current visa, don't have their Green Cards being processed or have their GCs being processed but are so sick of the the prospective wait time that Canada's easier PR process seems alluring?

If you're a US citizen and work in IT, why on earth would you migrate to Canada? I think the ratio of IT jobs in US vs Canada is around 50:1. And trust me, I'm not exaggerating!

Like everything else, it's a complex web of reasons. I was born in Michigan and moved farther south soon after college. Both my wife and I have family in Michigan still and we're a 13 hour drive from them (now we have a son they want to visit). We want to be closer, but I am not interested in moving back to Michigan (Ohio, Illinois and Indiana are not much more attractive). We grew up across the river from Ontario and spent lots of vacations around Ontario, we both like Canada and have always thought highly of the country, the people, the education system, and the health system. We're looking at London or Kitchener as places to settle and they are medium towns similar to where we are living now, with similar institutions and town "feel", but the southern heat and sprawl are getting to us. Maybe our Canadian dream is a bit more nuanced, but it's still a dream

I truly agree with Orange but in the end it has to be your decision,you can move to canada,try your luck there,if you are successful then stay there or else you can always come back to U.S.
