Hi all,

I am (canadian) sponsoring my girlfriend for PR/immigration through common-law, and something unexpected happened, we broke up recently and it seems shes not in the interest of getting back together. She just had her medical check up for the procedures.
So my questions is,
If i help her go through this immigration/PR process, will this have any affect on possibly sponsoring future significant other?
Thank for the help!

Yes.

First, what you are thinking of doing is called FRAUD.

Second, you will be responsible for her for 3 years after she lands as PR. If she goes on welfare, you pay it back.

Third, you cannot sponsor another spouse for 3 years after she lands as PR.

But the most important is the FIRST reason. Defrauding IRCC is never advisable.

Well understood, thank you so much. So what would you suggest me to do? I still want to give it a shot for the relationship, thinking leaving it for a month or two and see if we can recover. If it can work then that's great! But what if it doesn't?

In addition, to @jddd comment, what is the point of going ahead since you know the relationship is no more established. It is going to impact you in many ways. Especially, if you have immediate relatives oversee that might need your genuine assistance in immigrating to Canada. Lastly, what you are asking about is marriage of convenience. You may not get divorce paper immediately she becomes a PR. I am sure it is a lengthy process. You are going to be stuck.

Thank you so much for the reply! My thoughts are that, I still wanna give it a shot and see if this 3 year relationship could be saved, in the meanwhile give it some room for the both of us to think about it, and it does work out then marriage is to come. Please suggest, thank you!

Withdraw the application. If you get back together, you can always reapply.

Thanks for your suggestion! But considering the process is long and her study/work permit expires sometimes this year. If we are to reapply then how would this affect her? considering the expiration of the permits? Thank you so much for your input!

Withdraw now. If you get back together, you can re-apply.

A withdrawal now will not hurt future applications. Continuing when the relationship has failed will hurt future applications and is illegal.

Thank you all so much for the information! much appreciate it!

Just as a note, in the sponsorship application as you'll remember, you have to declare common law and other marriages and when they started and ended. You have to also list your former partners names.

If you ever apply in the future for someone else, IRCC may verify the relationship. If you say it ended at one time and she says it ended at another - because you decide to wait to withdraw as an example - there is a very small chance that a discrepancy may be investigated.

If you two get back together and reapply, you'll need to detail the history of the relationship. If you broke up for an extended period of time, you'll need to declare it. If you don't and it's investigated because, for example, she moved out and has a different address from you, you have a small chance of a problem.

This is why it's essential to withdraw.
