Hi guys,

I have applied for diploma in Broadcasting television / New media. I have. Completed BFA in Photography in India. The. College has told that I should not have any problem with the visa processing as they already have students, who got they visa for such courses. But my Concern is as I have. Completed BFA already and now applying for a diploma in broadcasting television. Will they be any problem.? According to what I read about business students and commerce students, guess if they do something like this they visa is getting rejected. But I dint come across anyone who completed BFA and then joining a diploma program.

What do you have to say about my case?

Hi,

I don't know how relevant the study mismatch 'll be regarding this field, but in general..yes, if you apply for a lower level credential diploma programme after a Bachelor's degree, there 'll definitely be a study mismatch and most probably your visa 'll be rejected. Bachelor's degree holders should apply for a Master degree or atleast a PG level certificate/diploma (1 or 2 years) in the relevant field of previous study/ background. But, since, your field of media & broadcasting is not your regular course, and since your college is stressing that there'll be no problems... you may try..but most probably in my personal opinion, the CHC 'll not see the field but state mismatch of course since you 'll be applying for a lower level credential. Try going for a PG diploma/certificate in same field, and once again confirm with your college, that studying diploma after BFA, may be possible in other countries...but is it in Canada? Also try to contact those students from your college, who may 've actually gone to Canada to study a diploma programme after BFA. So, check.. crosscheck, do some more research and then finally take a decision.

Best of Luck

Thanks 007 for the response, I am going to Canada for a 2yr diploma program, I asked the. College folks about it more then ones and they said it would not be a problem, but when I asked them about the give me they contact details who I can talk to but they dint not agree to share they students info, so I went checking for students on Facebook and sent them a message to them but no reply yet.

The other problem is that there are only two colleges which has PG diploma in new media/broadcasting.

And I have completed Bachl in FIne Arts "Photography"

Hi,

It's clear from your above statements that your college is in some way reluctant to give out total information about the details concerning previous students who may 've pursued diploma after BFA in Canada (even though they may be genuine).
You'll 've to be very careful and do thorough research and only when you are 100% sure, that people 've indeed got visa for a diploma programme in broadcasting after BFA, then only you should take admission and apply for a visa, so as to avoid disappointment later.

Another issue, is the obvious field of photography, in which you 've pursued your BFA and your choice of studies in Media & Broadcasting, which of course is a different field, as fine arts can incorporate anything from photography to painting to acting to music to dance and what not... So, again I feel that there'll be a good chance of course mismatch, even though it comes under the broad field of fine arts.

So, still... keeping in mind all the above factors, I personally think, even though you may have done BFA in photography and if you genuinely want to pursue Media & Broadcasting, you must go for a PG course at any of those two colleges, rather than opting for a diploma, where you'll most probably be immediately rejected for pursuing a course lower than your present credential... unless if you can find out/be sure, people 've actually got visa for a diploma in M&B after BFA! So, write a strong SOP, give reasons and if possible add it up with your experience in M&F (if any)as to make the profile more stronger... and hope for the best!

Alternatively, you can look for PG programmes in Photography too.
