Bringing someone else'e passport into Canada

A friend of mine told me to bring his expired passport to Canada (from abroad).

Is it illegal to carry someone else'e passport with myself ?

What if it is not expired and still valid ? Another friend of mine applied for his German visa at Germany's embassy in Canada and the background check took time. She left Canada 2 weeks ago and now the Germany's embassy told her to send her passport but she doesn't want to send it with mail. Is there going to be problem to carry someone else'e passport at Canada's border ?

Get a written statement from the person you are carrying the passport for along with their signature stating that they have asked you to do this and including a phone number where they can be reached at the time you arrive. Most likely, immigration will not search your luggage and will not know that you are carrying this passport but if they do and have questions, having the letter and phone number will help.
