My wife just got her PPR to come to Canada and we're starting to sort out the B4 form and all that jazz. One item we're puzzled with is her pet turtle. She has a red-eared slider and would like to bring it with her. Does anyone else have experience bringing pets in to Canada, specifically reptiles?

What province are you moving to?

Read this,
http://www.inspection.gc.ca/animals/terrestrial-animals/imports/policies/live-animals/pets/amphibians-and-reptiles/eng/1326658752555/1326658911065

While you may not need an import permit, you may need to find out whether you can import a turtle. You may need to contact the Canadian Food Inspection Agency,

http://www.inspection.gc.ca/eng/1297964599443/1297965645317

Just make sure you tell them that the importer is a new immigrant and that the turtle is a pet turtle (and what type of turtle it is).

She needs an import permit: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/imp/perme.shtml

Import permits are usually required for importers; a new immigrant is not considered an importer. It is always best to call them and explain the situation before filling out an application that may not be needed.

Individuals importing turtles require an import certificate.

I'm just going to go ahead and call them. I was hoping someone had brought a turtle over already, but thats all good. Thanks for all the links!

My friend put hers in the suitcase and it was fine, as long as its secure in a box there will be no issues.

Customs officers conduct inspections randomly. If you are caught, you are in trouble.

Yeah but they planned that if it was found they would know how it got there.
