I am a Canadian (Quebec resident) dating an American (Florida resident) and we plan on having him move here and get married. We have been together almost 4 years. Neither of us have high paying jobs but mine allows me to take time off a few times a year and he works from home. This has made it easier for us to see each other more often and for longer periods of time. I live with my parents and have been able to save up a lot of money over the years; I also plan to start looking for a better paying job very soon. He can still do his work for the US company after coming here which is wonderful.

I am pretty sure we are going to be ok financially but there are so many criteria everywhere... We would prefer the option that would allow us to be together as soon as possible. Which would be faster? Common law? Conjugal partner? Marriage? We can stay at my parents' temporarily while looking for a place together, or would it make any difference if I already have an apartment on my own? I am worried about having to pay rent by myself if there is a waiting period while I could be saving up more money for both of us instead. I live close to the Ontario border - my workplace is in Ottawa - and I was thinking I/we could remain on this side due to cheaper housing and still benefit from being near another province. Would there be any advantage for us to move to Ontario? He does not speak French but is learning. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

In order to sponsor him for PR, you must either be married or common law. You don't qualify for conjugal since you face no immigration barriers to getting married or becoming common law. Common law requires you to have lived together continuously for at least one full year. So fastest would be to get married.
