Bringing a tattoo machine as a student

Hello,
I'm planning to study in Canada for two years, and I was wondering if I would be able to bring my tattoo machine. I'm not a tattoo artist, I don't work as a tattoo artist. I just like learning about it and practicing once in a while (in practice fake skin, I've never tattooed anyone). I'm attached to my machine and would like to bring it with me, but I'm not sure if it would alert officers. I'm not really sure if it would be an issue, specially if I have a study permit allowing part time jobs (even if I'm not working with it).

My other option would be to have my boyfriend bring it, since he's applying for PR.
Would that raise less flags? He's not a tattoo artist, has nothing to do with the field. I've looked around but haven't found much, just people having issues when traveling with tourist visas for conventions, not study permits.

Thanks.

If flagged, it will definitely arouse suspicions since it is an unusual interest

Leave it at home. It could raise doubt about whether you are a genuine student or whether your main purpose in coming here is to try to work as a tattoo artist. It could easily lead to you being refused entry.

Oh, okay. I expected I wouldn’t be able to bring it myself. If my boyfriend is landing as PR, would it be weird if he brought it? Would he be able to declare it as a part of his goods, even if he’s not a tattoo artist?
