My boyfriend of 4 years and I are both US citizens. He recently got his dream job in Montreal and will be moving there in about a month(as soon as he gets his work visa). After reading many many posts in this forum, I am starting to get really doubtful about my chances of living with him whatsoever while he has this job...and that could be a year, two or three. We've only been living together for a few months and aren't completely ready to get married(but it seems like it wouldn't matter in this case since he is not a Canadian citizen).
I have a 2-year college degree and 3 years of office experience, plus great recommendations from my manager and CEO, but I don't speak any French(but I am trying to learn quickly). I am willing to do any kind of a job just so I can be with my boyfriend. Is it really that hard to find any kind of work in Montreal when you don't live in Canada to get a work visa? Is it hard to get a student visa? Do you think having a return flight ticket for approx. 6 months later, funds in my bank account and a letter from him saying that he will be supporting me with his bank account or offer letter from his employer will be good enough for a 6-month stay? My mom could fly with me to show I have family in the US and to show that she could wire me money as well if need be.
I don't know what to do....I am feeling really sick about this.
