BOWP After PNP AoR

Hello,

I currently find myself in this situation:
- Work permit expires in 2.5 months
- I am in the pool of Express Entry, but do not have an invitation yet.
- I have submitted PNP application and received AoR from BC
- I am not in posession of a PNP certificate
- Since the processing time is 2-3 months, I am wondering if I can apply for a BOWP.

I have read a few things that seem conflicting to me. Am I able to apply for the BOWP with the PNP AoR or not?

If the above answer is no and and BC hands me a certificate 1 day before the work permit expires, am I still able to request a BOWP?

If the above answer is no and BC takes longer than 2.5 months to give me a certificate, should I cross the border and get a visitor visa temporarily?

Lastly, I tried to play around in myCiC to get a BOWP and I seem to be able to either pick option
- Open work permit <= Is this the right choice?
- Open work permit extension. <= seem to require certificate. This is different from AoR right?

I hope I have explained my situation clearly. Thanks to anyone who is able to provide me some information.
