Border Crossing

I wish I would have found this forum before with all the info provided. I have a warning for those of you who are wondering if it's a good idea to cross the border to "renew" your 6 month stay....Don't do it. I have been reading about applying for an extended stay rather than border crossing and I have to say that would be the best and safest way to go. I have been in the country for 6 months visiting my fiance, and we decided to cross over into buffalo for the day then return to renew my 6 months. Crossing back into the states was pure hell...we both were detained and interrogated with a fine toothed comb. Luckily we were let into the states to do our black friday shopping but knew it was probably going to be just as bad crossing back over. We left buffalo and went through the border crossing at rainbow bridge..and this time crossing back over was worse than crossing into the states. We were again questioned for a very long period of time..had to be interviewed by the border and also by immigration. I was very luckily let back in but i'm sure we have been red flagged. No stamps were given on the passports which leads me to assume i have another 6 months from Friday but again...it wasn't worth it to go that route to extend my stay, and again, I wish I would have known about this forum beforehand. The only thing that saved me was the fact that I have always left the country before when I said I was, I had very strong ties to my home country, and strong ties from within Canada (my fiance's family whom they called to verify if my story was correct.) Let this be a warning to those who are thinking about doing this...don't. It's not worth it to be red flagged and be in bad standing with the country. Apply from within to extend your stay...or go home for a while then return 6 months to a year later. Trust me on this.
