Hi everyone,

Just looking for a bit of support and guidance here.

I applied for PR having been sponsored (Outland) by my Canadian born wife.

We’ve gone via Québec and have completed everything necessary and are just waiting for Review of Eligibility, Background Check and of course the Final Decision to be given.

Myself and my wife have been apart for months now as she had to return to Canada, leaving my plan to be to go and join her as soon as PR came through.

Fast forward to now and we’re still waiting.

I’ve since booked a flight exactly one month from today to Canada, irrespective of not having received our response.

This would mean, save for anything miraculous happening, I’d be flying to Canada as a visitor and would have to apply for an ETA to be able to remain in Canada on a 6 month visitor visa.

What I want to know is how the process from now will end, especially in light of the fact I’ll already be in Canada on a visitor visa.

What typically happens at this point? Do most people have to send their passports to the London Visa Office? Or do I just get an email telling me to present myself at a border, at which point could I drive into the states and back across?

As I understand it, I know there’s a good chance I’ll have to explain that I don’t intend on overstaying my visitor visa even if something goes wrong with the PR application.

I’m currently with the London (UK) visa office and have an estimated completion date of 10/08/2019, so I’ll be flying roughly 2 weeks before this date.

Myself and my wife appreciate any and all help or guidance any of you may have to offer us and we wish you all great success on your own applications/situations!

Thanks

Of course as a 'visitor' you cannot work in Canada.

Have a read about 'dual intent' here:

I assume you are a Brit? In which case 'visa exempt', so they won't want your passport, only a copy of the bio pages. Once in Canada, once you get your CoPR you can 'land' by 'flagpoling' at a Canada . US land border or book a landing appointment at a local CIC office.

I am a Brit, yes!

So I should be ok under Dual Intent seeing as i’m advanced in the process and can tick every other box too, which is great news.

So if they don’t want my passport, but Just he bio pages which I’m sure they’ll already have as part of the application, that will mean that all I should be expecting to do in reality is receive an email about CoPR at which point I can present myself at the necessary office?

Thanks so much for the help!

Correct - just don't try moving withal your worldy goods at this stage, have a return ticket etc. The MOST they will ask for is 2 new photos (which you will have to mail) and copies of the passport bio pages, and maybe a new Schedule A. On the other hand, they may go straight to issuing a CoPR.
