Blood pressure medication just before medical?

Hello all,

I have recently found out that I have high blood pressure (around 140/90 mostly). I’m 27 and not obese. I think it’s because of excessive work related stress (borderline harassment).

My question is: should I take a beta blocker (anti hypertensive medication) just before medical exam to evade hypertension?

Because i’ve read that the doctors may ask for echo and renal tests upon seeing hypertension and that makes me nervous.

My BP was high during my physical test, nobody asked for such thing and I got the PR as well.
They will go for blood test as well, so do not put yourself in a situation wherein you might face issues with your PR.

Just go with the flow.

They only test the blood for HIV & Syphilis. Besides, there will be a physical examination which includes checking your blood pressure, an X-ray to check for active/latent TB, and a urine dipstick test to check for blood, glucose and protein.

However, there is a questionnaire you need to fill up before your medical which asks you: "Are you taking any prescribed pills or medication (excluding oral contraceptives, over-the-counter medication and natural supplements)? Please list". You will need to truthfully answer that you are taking/have taken anti hypertensive medication as failure to do so could cause problems later.

if they find any issues while checking your blood pressure and they suspect you are under medications, they may ask for more tests.

Indicating that you have BP may not be an issue as it will not trigger "excessive demand on health system" given the recently increased limits, however you may face a misrepresentation issues if your are caught hiding something.

Be honest, and don't try to game the system. All the best !

Not needed, just get into an alcohol, salt, sugar free diet for a week and you will see the numbers lowered by at least 5 points.

What i meant was if you don't take any medications, you don't have to disclose anything. So better avoid taking medications unless your doctor requires you to take them to address your health issues if any.
