If you are applying under EE, there isn't a need for Birth Certificate for primary and dependant applicant's. However, for child, you need one.

I don't have a birth certificate and I am not sure if Indian govt. can issue one. even if they can issue, it will be a lot of headache and bureaucracy involved in getting that. I will give my passport and 10th marksheet as my birth date...i think they will agree.. if not then i dont know what i can do..

Hi,
It may seem difficult but there is a process for getting your birth certificate in India (at least Punjab for sure, given that your birth was actually registered- all children born in hospitals are registered). You need to get in touch with the office of Registrar of Births and Deaths. It takes about 15 days, if you have someone who can do the footwork in India.

If you are outside India, try getting Birth Certificate from nearest consulate based on DOB entry in the passport.

If you are in India, take at least two of the following documents to a Notary near you:

1. Passport
2. PAN Card
3. UIDAI Card (Adhar Card)
4. School Leaving Certificate

All these documents have your date of birth on them.

With these as proof, you can have an affidavit. Make sure you mention these document numbers in your affidavit.

No, it is not sufficient. Read this thread for what others are telling please. SSC certificate, even if accompanied with an affidavit is not sufficient to prove your birth date. I have a friend who sent these along with this FSW application last year and his application was rejected because of no providing birth certificate.

In India, our school leaving certificate is submitted in our college/university during admission which is never returned.

Anybody aware how can we get it back or is there any alternative to it?

How about a National Citizenship certificate translated into English language and calendar ? I can get notarized too.

What is a national citizenship certificate? If you don't have birth certificate, you can contact local municipality where you were born and you can get birth certificate. Why is this option not possible for you?

I have inquired about this and it is not as easy as you are suggesting.There is a lot of bureaucracy involved in this and it takes a lot of time.

Well the alternative as per this link - http://www.cicnews.com/2011/12/canadian-immigration-questions-answers-david-cohen-4-121166.html suggests the alternative "may be" accepted. One of my friends got rejected in FSW following this advice. Some have succeeded. So its a game of luck.
I am from India and my parents did not keep my birth certificate but I went through the bureaucracy and got my birth certificate.
