Hi everyone,
my wife and I are both Permanent Residents and started off in Toronto. We've been in Canada for about a year now and have both been employed almost all the time. Now we start to get tired of Toronto (crazy rent, long commute, masses of people) and are thinking of moving to another city. But we're not sure where to and what the best way would be.

Has anyone of you been in the same situation and could share their experience?

Especially to the question if it makes more sense to apply for jobs from Toronto and try to move with a job offer or if it makes more sense to first move and then look for jobs at the new place?
We had our eyes on Montreal for a while, we have been there on a trip and liked the city and atmosphere. Of course we know that Quebec has this French focus. My wife has a working knowledge of French and is sure she could improve hers. I don't speak French, but since I work in the IT field would hope I could still find my way around and get a job and if necessary also learn it.

I would be grateful about anyone who shares their stories on how they moved to another city.

If you tired of Toronto due to those reasons, you can buy your own home and work at home in Toronto.

Just my two cents . It’s just not a French focus in Quebec, it’s the French culture, it’s their identity. If you don’t know French it would be difficult, maybe not impossible to get a job of the calibre you’re looking for. Sure Montreal has a higher proportion of English speakers , but French is the language used, also what if you had clients from areas of Quebec that are very unilingual ? Quebec City , the Gaspe ? You have to remember that since 1974, French is the ONLY official language in the province of Quebec

IMO I would definitely not move to Quebec if your wife only has a working knowledge of French and you don't know the language. You'll find your job opportunities very limited. Pick a different part of Canada.

Would secure at least one job before moving. IT workers ca get away with little French but in other industries it would be harder.
